Epithalon is a synthetic tetrapeptide (Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly) designed based on the amino-acid composition of Epithalamin, a bovine pineal-gland peptide extract. In telomerase-negative human fetal fibroblast cultures, a published study examined the peptide's association with telomerase catalytic-subunit expression and telomerase enzymatic activity (TRAP assay), reporting increased telomere length and greater population-doubling capacity in peptide-exposed cultures compared with control cultures. A related, more recent publication (with a subsequent correction) re-examined telomere length changes in human cell lines in relation to telomerase upregulation and alternative-lengthening-of-telomeres (ALT) activity. Independent replication of these findings outside the original laboratory's body of work remains limited in the indexed literature, and Epithalon has not completed human clinical trials or received regulatory approval for any use.
