Laboratory handling
Ships as a sealed lyophilized vial with cold-pack protection. Recommended storage is -20 degrees C, desiccated, away from light; avoid condensation by warming the sealed vial to room temperature before breaking the seal. The receiving laboratory is responsible for all subsequent handling under its own written procedures.
Evidence first

Published literature
Human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) is a heterodimeric glycoprotein hormone composed of a non-covalently associated alpha subunit — shared with LH, FSH, and TSH — and a hormone-specific beta subunit. Structural and biochemical studies have mapped its binding to the luteinizing hormone/chorionic gonadotropin receptor (LHCGR), a leucine-rich-repeat-containing G-protein-coupled receptor, identifying contact regions and beta-subunit determinants that confer hCG/LH receptor selectivity relative to other glycoprotein hormone receptors. Individual alpha or beta subunits show negligible receptor-binding activity in isolation; the reconstituted heterodimer is required for receptor engagement. This entry addresses only the molecular structure and receptor pharmacology of hCG and does not summarize clinical or population-outcome data.
Describes what the cited studies examined in the systems noted above — not a claim about outcomes for people. Not medical advice.
