DSIP is a nonapeptide (Trp-Ala-Gly-Gly-Asp-Ala-Ser-Gly-Glu) originally isolated from rabbit brain venous blood. Published animal studies examined a saturable transport mechanism carrying DSIP across the blood-brain barrier and its association with electroencephalographic delta-wave activity, thermoregulation, and adrenergic signaling, with effects reported to vary by species. More recent rodent research examined a DSIP-fusion peptide in a PCPA-induced insomnia model and DSIP's association with motor-function-recovery markers and infarct size following intranasal administration in a rat focal-stroke (MCAO) model. DSIP has not completed human clinical trials and holds no regulatory approval for any use.
